Job Description

The School Crossing Guard Supervisor plays a crucial role in safeguarding children as they travel to and from school. This position involves managing and overseeing a team of school crossing guards, ensuring proper training, scheduling, and adherence to safety protocols across designated school zones within Lexington-Fayette County. The supervisor acts as a liaison between the crossing guards, schools, and the local community, promoting pedestrian safety and efficient traffic management during peak school hours. This is a critical leadership role that contributes directly to the welfare of our youngest residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of school crossing guards.
  • Develop and implement schedules for crossing guards at various school locations.
  • Conduct regular site visits to observe crossing guard performance and provide feedback.
  • Ensure all crossing guards adhere to established safety procedures and traffic laws.
  • Address and resolve complaints or issues related to crossing guard operations promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, training, and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with school officials, law enforcement, and community groups to enhance pedestrian safety initiatives.
  • Manage equipment inventory and ensure proper distribution and maintenance.
  • Provide emergency response and support during critical incidents in school zones.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Kentucky Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a school crossing guard or in a related public safety role.
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws and pedestrian safety regulations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with scheduling software.
