Job Description

Are you a musician with a knack for sales and a passion for helping others find their perfect sound? Long & McQuade in Owen Sound is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Musical Instrument Sales Advisor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who not only loves music but also excels at building relationships and driving sales, particularly within our guitar and keyboard departments. You’ll be instrumental in guiding customers through our extensive product range, demonstrating instruments, and ensuring they leave with exactly what they need to make great music. This role includes a competitive base salary with significant commission potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage customers warmly and identify their musical needs through active listening and questioning.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on guitars, keyboards, amplifiers, pedals, and related accessories.
  • Skillfully demonstrate various musical instruments, particularly guitars and keyboards, to customers.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, including managing inventory and special orders.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting sales floor and product displays.
  • Meet and exceed individual and team sales targets.
  • Stay up-to-date with new products, industry trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Assist with basic instrument setup and minor adjustments as needed.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment within the store team.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable proficiency in playing the guitar.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in playing a keyboard or piano.
  • Proven ability to engage customers and drive sales.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong product knowledge of various musical instruments and related equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of retail sales experience, preferably in musical instruments or electronics.
  • Knowledge of music theory, audio recording equipment, or live sound.
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Post-secondary education in music or a related field.
