Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee the operation and management of school crossing patrols within the Hammersmith and Fulham area. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of children crossing roads on their way to and from school. This involves supervising a team of School Crossing Guards, conducting site assessments, coordinating rotas, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing necessary training and support. You will act as a key point of contact for schools, parents, and the public regarding road safety initiatives and the crossing patrol service. This position requires a strong commitment to public safety, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to lead and motivate a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and support a team of School Crossing Guards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to school crossing locations to ensure safe practices and identify potential hazards.
  • Coordinate and manage crossing patrol rotas, ensuring adequate coverage for all designated schools.
  • Respond to queries and concerns from schools, parents, and the public regarding school crossing patrols.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, attendance, and equipment.
  • Ensure all crossing guards adhere to health and safety regulations and council policies.
  • Assist in the recruitment and induction of new School Crossing Guards.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and conduct appraisals for team members.
  • Liaise with relevant council departments and external agencies on road safety matters.
  • Represent the council at community meetings or events related to children's safety.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • A keen understanding of road safety principles and practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Basic IT proficiency for record keeping and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a local authority or public service environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant local authority policies and procedures.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience in training and development.
