Job Description
We are actively seeking an experienced and highly skilled Ship Master / Captain to command our commercial vessels. This critical leadership role involves the overall operational management of the vessel, ensuring the safety of the crew, cargo, and ship, while adhering to all international and national maritime regulations. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional navigational expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to operational efficiency. This position offers visa sponsorship for qualified international candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently navigate the vessel in all waters and weather conditions, adhering to voyage plans and international maritime conventions.
- Assume ultimate responsibility for the safety, security, and welfare of the vessel, its cargo, and all personnel onboard.
- Lead, manage, and train the crew, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Ensure strict compliance with all national and international maritime laws, regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, etc.), and company policies.
- Oversee cargo operations, including loading, stowage, and discharge, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Manage vessel maintenance and inspections, coordinating with the Chief Engineer to ensure operational readiness.
- Conduct regular safety drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
- Administer vessel documentation, logs, and reports accurately and timely.
- Communicate effectively with shore-side management, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Manage the vessel's budget and resources efficiently.
Required Skills
- Master Mariner (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (COC/License) valid for international voyages.
- STCW Endorsements current and compliant.
- Extensive experience as a Ship Master or Chief Officer on commercial vessels of comparable size and type.
- Thorough knowledge of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and STCW.
- Proficiency in navigation, ship handling, and electronic navigational aids (ECDIS, Radar, GPS).
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse crew and foster a positive working environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and emergency response capabilities.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with container vessels or similar commercial shipping operations.
- Advanced leadership and management training.
- Specific experience with environmentally sensitive cargo handling.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to international shipping.
