Job Description
Join the Maryland State Police as a State/Provincial Highway Patrol Dispatcher, serving on our dedicated night shift team. This vital role involves responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching law enforcement personnel, and maintaining accurate records to support highway patrol operations. You will be the crucial first point of contact, providing calm and effective communication during critical incidents and routine inquiries. This position requires a strong commitment to public safety, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other agencies.
- Dispatch Maryland State Police troopers and other emergency personnel to incident locations efficiently.
- Provide critical information and instructions to callers and field units.
- Monitor multiple radio channels, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and other communication equipment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all calls, dispatches, and activities.
- Process and disseminate information regarding traffic incidents, arrests, and other police matters.
- Operate various telecommunication systems, including 911/E911 and police radio systems.
- Assist with warrant checks, license plate inquiries, and other database searches for troopers.
- Remain calm and professional in stressful and emergency situations.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a dispatch, call center, or public safety environment.
- Knowledge of public safety codes, terminology, and geographical area of Maryland.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish).
- Associate's degree or higher in criminal justice, communications, or a related field.
