Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Stroke Nurse to join our highly skilled team. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in providing acute and rehabilitative care to patients who have experienced a stroke. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of stroke patients, identifying their needs and developing individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring patient responses and managing potential complications.
  • Provide specialized nursing care related to stroke recovery, including neurological assessments, dysphagia management, and mobility support.
  • Educate patients and their families about stroke prevention, recovery strategies, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Collaborate effectively with neurologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and data protection guidelines.
  • Participate in ward rounds, team meetings, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, demonstrating critical thinking and decisive action.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an acute medical, neurological, or stroke unit setting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of stroke pathways, acute stroke management, and rehabilitation principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.
  • Ability to perform neurological assessments (e.g., NIHSS).
  • Proficient in medication administration and IV therapy.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualification in Stroke Care or Neurology.
  • Experience with thrombolysis and thrombectomy patient care.
  • Basic or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital environment.
