Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Student Affairs Director to lead our comprehensive student support services. This critical role involves overseeing the strategic development and operational management of all aspects related to student welfare, engagement, and administrative support, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for our diverse student body, with particular attention to the needs of our international students. You will be instrumental in developing policies, managing teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including those pertaining to visa sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all student affairs functions, including student welfare, accommodation, counselling, disability services, and student conduct.
- Develop and implement innovative policies and procedures that enhance student life and comply with university regulations and external legal requirements.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of student affairs professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure robust support for international students, including expert guidance on UK immigration regulations and visa sponsorship processes, and facilitate their successful integration into the university community.
- Collaborate effectively with academic departments, faculty, and other university services to deliver integrated and holistic support for students.
- Manage critical incidents and student emergencies with sensitivity, efficiency, and adherence to university protocols.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of student services, utilising data and feedback to inform strategic planning and service enhancements.
- Represent the university at various internal and external forums related to student affairs and higher education policy.
Required Skills
- Proven leadership experience (5+ years) in student affairs or a related senior role within a higher education setting.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural competence skills, with an ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Strong strategic planning, organisational, and project management abilities.
- Demonstrable knowledge of UK immigration regulations and visa sponsorship processes relevant to international students in higher education.
- Experience in managing and developing high-performing teams in a complex organisational environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and crisis management skills.
- A deep commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the student community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience (7+ years) in a senior leadership role within a UK university's student services department.
- Professional certifications or extensive training related to counselling, student welfare, or immigration advice.
- Experience in budget management and resource allocation within a large institution.
