Job Description
Are you an early riser with a passion for fresh-baked goods? Sobeys is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Supermarket Bakery Assistant to join our Thunder Bay team! In this role, you will be an integral part of our bakery operations, helping to prepare, bake, and present a wide array of delicious items for our customers. This position requires early morning availability to ensure our shelves are stocked with fresh products from opening. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake various bakery products, including breads, pastries, cakes, and other confections, following established recipes and quality standards.
- Assist with the mixing, proofing, and finishing of doughs and batters.
- Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and other sweet treats as required.
- Ensure the bakery area is clean, organized, and compliant with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Receive and properly store bakery ingredients and supplies.
- Monitor product freshness and rotate stock to minimize waste.
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, assisting with product inquiries and special orders.
- Operate bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy ingredients (up to 25 kg), and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a bakery, kitchen, or retail environment (an asset, but not required).
- Food Handler's Certificate (or willingness to obtain one upon hire).
- A genuine passion for baking and food preparation.
