Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Tour Guide with exceptional language proficiency to lead adventurous excursions for our diverse clientele. This role involves guiding guests through various outdoor activities such as scenic hikes, wildlife viewing, historical explorations, and specialized adventure tours around the Bozeman and Big Sky areas. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of local flora, fauna, geology, and history, coupled with the ability to communicate captivating narratives in multiple languages. You will be responsible for ensuring guest safety, providing expert interpretation, and creating a memorable and enriching experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily guided tours and excursions, including hiking, nature walks, and interpretive programs.
- Provide expert commentary and interpretation on local natural history, ecology, geology, and cultural significance.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants, adhering to established safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Communicate effectively and engagingly with diverse groups of guests, utilizing advanced language skills to cater to international visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of tour activities, guest feedback, and incident reports.
- Conduct pre-tour briefings, equipment checks, and post-tour debriefings.
- Adapt tour itineraries and content based on weather conditions, group dynamics, and guest interests.
- Assist with the maintenance and preparation of tour equipment and vehicles.
- Represent Big Sky Resort professionally and embody our commitment to outstanding guest service.
- Stay informed about local attractions, events, and relevant news to enhance tour experiences.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in outdoor guiding or interpretive education.
- Fluency in English and at least one additional language (e.g., Spanish, French, German, Mandarin).
- Extensive knowledge of local ecosystems, wildlife, geology, and history of the Montana region.
- Current certification in Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
- Strong leadership, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to navigate challenging terrain and adapt to varying weather conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for sharing knowledge with others.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Science, History, or a related field.
- Certification as a Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) or similar professional guiding certification.
- Experience with specialized adventure activities such as rock climbing, fly fishing, or mountain biking.
- Proficiency in additional languages.
- Knowledge of local search and rescue procedures.
- Previous experience working in a resort or hospitality environment.
