Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced Trademark Attorney to join our esteemed Intellectual Property team in Sunderland. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advising clients on all aspects of trademark law, including prosecution, portfolio management, enforcement, and contentious matters. Key Responsibilities
- Manage national and international trademark portfolios, including filing and prosecuting trademark applications.
- Conduct trademark clearance searches and provide registrability opinions.
- Advise clients on trademark strategy, branding, and protection.
- Handle trademark opposition, cancellation, and infringement proceedings.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property agreements, such as licenses and assignments.
- Provide legal advice on copyright, design rights, and domain name disputes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm and engage directly with clients.
- Stay abreast of developments in intellectual property law and contribute to thought leadership.
Required Skills
- Qualified Trademark Attorney (UK or EU).
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in trademark law.
- Strong understanding of national and international trademark systems (e.g., UKIPO, EUIPO, WIPO).
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently and as part of a team.
- Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IP litigation or contentious matters.
- Exposure to design rights and copyright law.
- A relevant degree in Law or a related field.
- Membership in professional organizations such as CITMA.
