Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Tunneling Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bath, Somerset. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. As a Tunneling Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and delivery of complex tunneling projects, from initial feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support. You will work within a collaborative environment, leveraging cutting-edge technology and best practices to ensure the successful execution of challenging underground infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed geotechnical and structural analysis for tunneling projects.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for tunnels, shafts, and associated underground structures.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and drawings in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Utilize specialist software for ground-structure interaction modeling and geotechnical design.
  • Contribute to the development of tender documents and support bid submissions.
  • Conduct site visits and provide technical support during the construction phase.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in tunneling or underground construction projects.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical design principles and structural analysis.
  • Experience with relevant engineering software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, Phase2, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of tunneling methods (e.g., TBM, NATM, cut & cover).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it (e.g., CEng, P.Eng).
  • Experience with BIM software (e.g., Revit, Civil 3D).
  • Knowledge of UK design standards and specifications.
  • Project management experience or certification.
