Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced Urban Designer / Masterplanner to join our dynamic team in Steinbach, Manitoba. This pivotal role involves leading and contributing to a diverse range of urban design and master planning projects, from conceptualization through to implementation. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of communities, creating sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of urban design principles, excellent graphic and communication skills, and a passion for crafting impactful places. Relocation assistance will be provided for qualified candidates looking to make Steinbach their new home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the development of urban design and master plan concepts, strategies, and guidelines.
- Prepare high-quality graphic presentations, reports, and design documentation using a variety of software.
- Conduct site analysis, research, and evaluate existing conditions to inform design solutions.
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and community members throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure design solutions adhere to local planning policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams including planners, architects, landscape architects, and engineers.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring quality and client satisfaction.
- Present design proposals and master plans to various audiences, including public and private sector clients.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, or Architecture.
- Minimum of 60 months (5 years) of progressive professional experience in urban design and master planning.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), SketchUp, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong graphic communication, drawing, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing comprehensive urban design guidelines and master plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration with CIP, OPPI, or a similar provincial/territorial planning institute.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Familiarity with the planning and development context in Manitoba and Western Canada.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and scheduling.
- Experience with public consultation and stakeholder engagement processes.
