Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic environmental team in Hamilton, Ontario. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a diverse range of environmental projects, including impact assessments, habitat restoration, biodiversity studies, and conservation planning. You will be involved in both fieldwork and office-based tasks, contributing to projects that have a tangible positive impact on natural environments. This role requires a strong understanding of ecological principles, wildlife biology, and relevant environmental legislation, along with excellent communication and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys for wildlife, flora, and their habitats, including species-at-risk assessments.
- Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation using various scientific tools and software.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and environmental assessment documents.
- Assist with environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and support regulatory approvals.
- Utilize GIS and GPS technologies for mapping and spatial analysis of ecological data.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations.
- Contribute to the development of habitat management and restoration plans.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all fieldwork and office activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian wildlife, flora, and ecosystems.
- Proficiency in ecological field survey techniques and data collection methods.
- Strong report writing and technical communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply environmental legislation and policies.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for data management and mapping.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for fieldwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in environmental consulting.
- Professional designation (e.g., Registered Professional Biologist).
- Experience with species-at-risk identification and mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SAS).
- Experience with permit applications and regulatory agency liaison.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
