Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Justice Assistant to join our Community Programs team in Ballina. This role involves providing crucial support to young people involved in or at risk of entering the justice system, working within a framework that promotes rehabilitation, positive youth development, and community reintegration. You will assist in the implementation of tailored programs, provide direct support to clients, and collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for young people. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of community-based youth justice programs.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to young people, ensuring their engagement and participation.
  • Support case management activities, including record-keeping, reporting, and progress tracking.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with young clients, their families, and other support networks.
  • Liaise with external agencies, schools, and government departments as directed.
  • Participate in outreach activities to identify and engage young people requiring support.
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive, and culturally sensitive environment for all participants.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of youth development principles and issues affecting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.
  • Current Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services, Criminology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with young people, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the NSW youth justice system and relevant legislation.
  • Experience in program delivery or group facilitation.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
