Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Directional Drilling Operator – Civil to join our dynamic team in Galway. This critical role involves operating state-of-the-art directional drilling equipment for various civil engineering projects, including utility installations, pipe laying, and conduit placement. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, working closely with site managers and ground crews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) rigs and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct pre-drilling inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and utility maps.
  • Monitor drilling parameters and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure accurate bore path execution and alignment with project specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with the drilling crew, supervisors, and other site personnel.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs of drilling activities, including footage, materials used, and any issues encountered.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Directional Drilling Operator, preferably in civil projects.
  • Proficiency in operating HDD rigs and locating equipment.
  • Strong understanding of drilling fluids, bore planning, and utility avoidance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements for heavy machinery.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FETAC/QQI Level 6 certification in Plant Operation or equivalent.
  • Experience with various ground conditions and soil types.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Safe Pass certification.
