Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surveying Technician to join our dynamic team in Cairns. This role involves supporting our licensed surveyors in both mining and civil construction projects, ensuring the accurate collection and processing of spatial data. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the precise setup and operation of advanced surveying equipment, contributing to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure and resource projects across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Licensed Surveyors with various field surveys for mining and civil projects.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate a range of surveying equipment, including GPS, Total Stations, and digital levels.
  • Accurately collect and record survey data on-site, ensuring data integrity and compliance with project specifications.
  • Perform basic survey calculations and data processing using relevant software.
  • Set out survey points, lines, and levels for construction and excavation activities.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and site-specific regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of basic survey plans and reports.
  • Undertake regular equipment checks and minor troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other team members.

Required Skills

  • Proven proficiency in operating modern surveying equipment (GPS, Total Stations).
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and recording.
  • Ability to work effectively in various outdoor and sometimes challenging environmental conditions.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services or a related field.
  • Previous experience (1+ years) in a surveying technician role, particularly within mining or civil construction projects.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or 12d Model.
  • Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • First Aid certification.
