Job Description
The City of St. Petersburg is seeking a dedicated Bridge Maintenance Hand to join our Civil Government Infrastructure team. This vital role involves performing a variety of manual and skilled tasks essential for the inspection, upkeep, and repair of bridges and related civil structures throughout the city. The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring the safety, longevity, and operational efficiency of our critical infrastructure, working under supervision and as part of a committed team. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of bridge components, including structural elements, decks, railings, and expansion joints.
- Assist in repairs, including concrete patching, joint sealing, painting, and minor welding.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively for maintenance tasks.
- Participate in the setup and breakdown of work zones, ensuring proper traffic control and safety protocols are followed.
- Clean and clear debris from bridge structures and surrounding areas.
- Report observed structural defects, hazards, or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, departmental policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of construction or maintenance tools and equipment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and following safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil infrastructure, construction, or general maintenance.
- Familiarity with bridge components and inspection practices.
- CDL Class A or B.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Basic welding or carpentry skills.
