Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic pathology team in Tower Hamlets. This is an exceptional opportunity for qualified professionals, particularly those requiring Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship, to contribute to a vital healthcare service. You will be instrumental in processing and analysing clinical samples, ensuring accurate and timely results that directly impact patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of laboratory investigations and diagnostic tests across various disciplines (e.g., Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology) following established protocols.
- Operate and maintain complex laboratory equipment, ensuring daily quality control, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Analyze and interpret test results, identifying abnormalities and escalating critical findings to senior staff in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity in line with laboratory protocols, quality management systems, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 15189, HCPC).
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes to maintain high analytical standards and contribute to audit processes.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines, COSHH regulations, and laboratory standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and processes, including validation of new techniques or equipment.
- Liaise effectively with medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient results and inquiries.
Required Skills
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification acceptable for HCPC registration.
- Current and valid Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Demonstrable experience (typically 2+ years post-registration) working in a clinical pathology laboratory, preferably in one or more disciplines such as Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, or Microbiology.
- Proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques and the operation of automated analysers.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment and manage a varied workload.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific laboratory information management systems (LIMS) relevant to UK pathology services.
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) and participation in relevant training courses.
- Experience across multiple pathology disciplines or specialist knowledge in a particular area.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant scientific discipline.
