Job Description
We are seeking a highly reliable and motivated Overnight Courier Driver to join our team, operating on quiet, pre-planned routes in the Porthcawl and wider Bridgend area. This role is perfect for individuals who thrive on independent work during the night hours and appreciate premium night pay. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of parcels, ensuring they reach their destinations on time and in perfect condition. This is an essential role in our logistics chain, requiring a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company vehicle (van) on designated overnight delivery routes.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Load and unload parcels efficiently, ensuring secure handling and storage within the vehicle.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and collections using handheld scanning devices.
- Ensure timely completion of routes and meet delivery schedules.
- Communicate effectively with depot staff regarding any route issues or delivery exceptions.
- Represent DPD UK professionally and courteously.
Required Skills
- Valid UK driving license (Category B) with no more than 3 penalty points.
- Ability to lift and carry parcels weighing up to 25kg.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Basic navigation skills and ability to use GPS systems.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently during night hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a courier or delivery driver (minimum 1 year).
- Familiarity with the Porthcawl and wider Bridgend geographic area.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
- Experience with handheld scanning technology.
