Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Machinist (Manual/CNC) to join our engineering workshop in Coventry. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating both manual and CNC machinery to produce high-precision components for various projects. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to quality, and a strong understanding of engineering principles. You will work within a dynamic team environment, contributing to the manufacturing process from start to finish, ensuring all parts meet strict specifications and tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machines (lathes, milling machines, grinders) to produce components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and G-code programs.
- Select and manage appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials.
- Perform in-process and final inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations and make necessary adjustments.
- Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality control standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimize production processes and resolve technical issues.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating both manual and CNC machine tools.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Competency with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
- Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances.
- Knowledge of various metals and materials.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Machining.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM).
- Familiarity with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens controls.
- Experience in a defence or aerospace manufacturing environment.
