Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Machinist (Manual/CNC) to join our engineering workshop in Coventry. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating both manual and CNC machinery to produce high-precision components for various projects. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to quality, and a strong understanding of engineering principles. You will work within a dynamic team environment, contributing to the manufacturing process from start to finish, ensuring all parts meet strict specifications and tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machines (lathes, milling machines, grinders) to produce components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and G-code programs.
  • Select and manage appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations and make necessary adjustments.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimize production processes and resolve technical issues.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating both manual and CNC machine tools.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Competency with precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
  • Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances.
  • Knowledge of various metals and materials.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Machining.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM).
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens controls.
  • Experience in a defence or aerospace manufacturing environment.
