Job Description
Join The Woolmark Company as a Textile Design Intern and immerse yourself in the world of premium wool textiles and apparel innovation. You will work alongside experienced designers, researchers, and marketers, learning about textile trends, sustainable practices, and the intricate process of bringing innovative wool products to market. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior textile designers in research and development of new wool-based fabrics and finishes.
- Contribute to trend forecasting, mood board creation, and presentation preparation for upcoming collections.
- Support the design team in visualising textile patterns, colourways, and print applications using design software.
- Help organise and maintain the extensive fabric library, sample archives, and material resources.
- Participate in design meetings, providing creative input and learning about project workflows.
- Conduct research on sustainable textile practices, new technologies, and competitor analysis within the apparel industry.
- Prepare technical specifications and documentation for design concepts.
- Collaborate with internal teams on special projects related to wool innovation and market promotion.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Textile Design, Fashion Design, or a related creative field.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) for textile design applications.
- A strong portfolio showcasing textile design projects, print development, and/or material exploration, demonstrating an understanding of apparel industry aesthetics.
- Foundational understanding of textile properties, manufacturing processes, and fabric construction, with an interest in natural fibres, particularly wool.
- Excellent visual communication and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organisational abilities, and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take constructive feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest or academic project experience related to wool textiles or sustainable fashion.
- Familiarity with 3D design software (e.g., CLO3D, Browzwear) is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of textile testing methods and quality control.
- Experience with colour management and digital printing techniques.
