Job Description

Hampshire County Council is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our team as an Entry Level Shipping & Receiving Clerk. No prior experience is required, as we are committed to providing comprehensive training to help you develop the skills needed to succeed in this vital role. You will be instrumental in the smooth operation of our supply chain, handling incoming and outgoing goods that support critical public services. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments, verifying contents against invoices and purchase orders.
  • Prepare and package outgoing shipments, ensuring proper labelling and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through meticulous data entry.
  • Organise and store items in designated warehouse areas efficiently and safely.
  • Operate basic material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks) after receiving appropriate training.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and stock reconciliation.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments and external suppliers regarding delivery schedules and discrepancies.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency (data entry).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move packages up to 25kg.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including English and Maths.
  • Familiarity with basic warehouse or inventory principles (not required, but a plus).
  • A clean UK driving license (for potential future progression).
