Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers to join our seasonal team, operating under a vital public sector contract in Croydon. This role is crucial for maintaining public safety and ensuring key transport routes remain open during adverse winter weather conditions. As a seasonal driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized gritting and snow plowing vehicles, playing an essential part in our community’s resilience plan. This contract offers competitive hourly rates and the opportunity to make a tangible difference to local infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate snow plows and gritting vehicles according to established routes and operational procedures.
- Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to call-outs for gritting and snow clearance.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
- Maintain accurate records of routes completed, materials used, and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including those specific to winter maintenance operations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding operational updates and any issues encountered.
- Assist with manual snow clearance or other duties as required during inclement weather.
Required Skills
- Valid HGV Class C or CE driving license.
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- Demonstrable experience operating heavy goods vehicles (minimum 2 years).
- A strong commitment to safety and adherence to operational procedures.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, often at short notice.
- Good geographical knowledge of the Croydon area or ability to learn routes quickly.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating gritting or snow plowing equipment.
- NVQ or similar qualification in winter maintenance or road operations.
- Experience working on public sector contracts.
- Familiarity with telematics systems for route tracking and reporting.
