Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Wind Turbine Engineer to join our dynamic team in Plymouth. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of wind turbine generators and associated equipment. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our wind assets, contributing directly to our mission of delivering clean, sustainable energy. This is an on-site role that requires a hands-on approach, strong technical expertise, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs on wind turbine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct thorough inspections, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Utilize SCADA systems for monitoring turbine performance and remote fault finding.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, operational procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Complete accurate documentation of all work performed, including service reports, fault logs, and inventory usage.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide emergency support as required.
- Collaborate effectively with site teams, project managers, and external contractors.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in turbine operations and maintenance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians if applicable.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in wind turbine maintenance and repair.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various site locations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to health and safety regulations.
- Physical ability to climb wind turbine towers and work at heights.
- Competency in using maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational training or a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.
- GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) certification (Working at Heights, First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, Sea Survival if applicable).
- Experience with specific turbine technologies (e.g., Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE).
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and data analysis for performance optimization.
- Familiarity with UK renewable energy regulations and standards.
