Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team in Portsmouth. This role involves the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical systems for cutting-edge defence and aerospace projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in the product lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacturing and deployment, ensuring high performance, reliability, and adherence to stringent industry standards. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to solutions that push the boundaries of engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, sub-systems, and full systems using CAD software.
- Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
- Generate detailed technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate mechanical designs.
- Support the prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs.
- Identify and implement improvements to existing products and processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design and development.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science).
- Experience with engineering analysis tools and methodologies.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Eligibility for UK security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- Knowledge of defence, aerospace, or maritime industry standards and practices.
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
