Job Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team in Portsmouth. This role involves the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical systems for cutting-edge defence and aerospace projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in the product lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacturing and deployment, ensuring high performance, reliability, and adherence to stringent industry standards. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to solutions that push the boundaries of engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, sub-systems, and full systems using CAD software.
  • Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
  • Generate detailed technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate mechanical designs.
  • Support the prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs.
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing products and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design and development.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science).
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Knowledge of defence, aerospace, or maritime industry standards and practices.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
