Job Description
Southampton City Council is seeking a dedicated and physically fit Traffic Sign Installation Laborer to join our Public Works team. This is an exciting outdoor council role perfect for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and contributing to their local community. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various traffic signs across Southampton, ensuring clear and safe navigation for pedestrians and motorists. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge for this vital role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the installation of new traffic signs and posts according to specifications.
- Removing old or damaged signs and posts safely.
- Performing routine maintenance, cleaning, and repair of existing signage.
- Operating basic hand tools and power tools under supervision.
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment from vehicles.
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations and guidelines on site.
- Working effectively as part of a team to complete projects efficiently.
- Reporting any issues or damage found during inspections.
- Maintaining a clean and organised work environment.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
- Full UK driving license.
- Previous experience in a laboring, construction, or outdoor maintenance role (though not essential).
- Basic knowledge of road safety signs and regulations.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
