Job Description
We are seeking compassionate and reliable individuals to join our team as a Special Needs Transport Assistant. This vital role involves providing safe and supportive transportation for individuals with special needs, primarily students, to and from various locations within the Pittsburgh area. The position features split shifts, making it an ideal opportunity for parents looking for work that aligns with school schedules or those seeking flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles for scheduled routes, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Assist passengers with special needs during boarding and disembarking, including securing wheelchairs, car seats, and other mobility aids.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers throughout the journey.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle interior, performing pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with passengers, parents/guardians, and school staff.
- Adhere to assigned schedules and promptly report any delays, incidents, or mechanical issues.
- Undergo all required training and certifications, including those specific to special needs transportation and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adapt to changing situations with composure.
- Physical ability to assist passengers, lift and secure mobility equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- A strong commitment to safety, reliability, and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with individuals with special needs (e.g., in a childcare, educational, or healthcare setting).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of the Pittsburgh area road network and navigation.
