Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Arson Investigator. This entry-level position is perfect for someone passionate about public safety, with a strong commitment to justice and an investigative mindset. No prior experience in arson investigation is required, as comprehensive training and mentorship will be provided. You will learn the critical skills needed to determine the origin and cause of fires, identify suspicious activity, and gather evidence to support legal proceedings. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in comprehensive training programs on fire dynamics, investigation techniques, and legal procedures related to arson.
- Shadow experienced Arson Investigators at fire scenes to observe evidence collection, scene preservation, and interview techniques.
- Assist in documenting fire scenes through photography, sketching, and detailed note-taking under supervision.
- Learn to identify and analyze fire patterns and indicators of incendiary fires.
- Support the preparation of investigative reports and case documentation.
- Attend court proceedings and depositions as part of ongoing training.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, safety protocols, and ethical guidelines.
- Engage in continuous professional development and stay updated on investigative best practices.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening
- Strong observational and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions
- Physical ability to navigate fire scenes and varying environmental conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, or a related field (or currently pursuing)
- Experience in a public safety or emergency services capacity (volunteer or paid)
- Familiarity with basic investigative principles
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
