Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Theatrical Wardrobe / Costume Dresser to join our fast-paced backstage team. This role is critical in ensuring the seamless execution of our productions, focusing on costume changes, maintenance, and organization. The ideal candidate will thrive in a high-pressure environment, possess excellent time management skills, and have a keen eye for detail. This is a hands-on position requiring quick thinking and a proactive approach to supporting our actors and designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute rapid costume changes for performers during live productions, ensuring actors are ready for their cues.
- Assist with the dressing and undressing of performers, maintaining costume integrity and cleanliness.
- Organize and prepare costumes for each performance, including steaming, ironing, and minor repairs.
- Track and manage costume inventory, reporting any damages or missing items to the Wardrobe Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized wardrobe area backstage, including costume racks, changing rooms, and prop storage.
- Assist with pre-show checks, ensuring all costume elements are in place and ready.
- Collaborate effectively with the Wardrobe Supervisor, Assistant Dressers, and other backstage personnel.
- Adhere to strict show schedules and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Basic sewing and mending skills for quick costume repairs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by performance schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a theatrical or live event production wardrobe department.
- Knowledge of various costume fabrics and proper care techniques.
- Familiarity with theatrical terminology and backstage etiquette.
