Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous WFH Digital Archivist to join our team, focusing on historical records management. This is a 100% remote position. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preserving, organizing, and making accessible our extensive digital and digitised historical collections. You will be responsible for implementing best practices in digital preservation, metadata management, and ensuring the long-term integrity and accessibility of our vital historical records. This role requires a strong understanding of archival principles, digital asset management systems, and a passion for Australian heritage.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies for the digitisation, description, and preservation of historical records.
- Manage and maintain the organisation's Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
- Apply relevant archival standards (e.g., DACS, EAD, PREMIS) for describing and cataloguing digital content.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of digital archives through regular audits and backups.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify, acquire, and process new digital and digitised collections.
- Provide guidance and training on best practices for digital records creation and management to staff.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in digital archiving and preservation.
- Respond to internal and external requests for archival materials and information.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures for the lifecycle management of digital information.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems.
- Proficiency in metadata standards and schemas (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, METS).
- Strong understanding of digital preservation principles and practices.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote environment.
- Familiarity with historical research methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Archival Studies, Library and Information Science, or a related field.
- Experience working with cultural heritage institutions or historical collections.
- Knowledge of Australian archival history and context.
- Familiarity with various digital file formats and their long-term preservation challenges.
- Experience with content management systems.
