Job Description
RTC Washoe is seeking dedicated and vigilant individuals to join our team as Public Transit Security Officers. In this essential role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, staff, and property across our public transit system, including buses, transit centers, and park-and-ride facilities. This position involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to provide 24/7 coverage. As a Public Transit Security Officer, you will be a visible presence, deterring unauthorized activity, responding to incidents, and providing assistance to the public. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for all transit users while enjoying a comprehensive benefits package.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of transit vehicles, stations, and facilities to ensure safety and security.
- Monitor surveillance equipment and respond promptly to alarms or suspicious activities.
- Enforce transit policies, rules, and regulations, addressing violations professionally.
- Respond to and de-escalate disturbances, conflicts, and emergency situations.
- Provide assistance and information to passengers, including directions and safety guidelines.
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, observations, and daily activities.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Administer first aid or CPR in emergency situations, if certified.
- Conduct fare enforcement activities and ensure compliance.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness and report any potential hazards.
Required Skills
- Excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Proficiency in basic report writing.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- Valid Nevada Driver's License and a clean driving record.
- Basic knowledge of security procedures and public safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in public transit or a similar public-facing environment.
- Knowledge of local laws and ordinances related to public safety.
- Nevada Private Security Guard license (PILB card).
