Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Surveying & Geomatics Intern to join our construction team in Boulder, CO. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience with modern surveying technologies and geomatics principles applied to large-scale construction projects. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will assist with data collection, processing, and analysis, contributing to the precision and efficiency of our operations. This is an entry-level position perfect for students eager to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic field environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced surveyors and engineers in the field with data collection using total stations, GPS/GNSS, and other surveying equipment.
- Support the processing and analysis of survey data using specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, GIS platforms).
- Help prepare survey documents, maps, and reports for various project phases.
- Conduct quality control checks on collected data to ensure accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Learn to interpret construction plans and specifications to establish control points and layout designs.
- Participate in site visits and safety briefings, adhering to all company safety protocols.
- Collaborate with project teams to understand surveying needs and provide timely support.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment under supervision.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of surveying principles and practices.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor, construction site environment.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior coursework in land surveying, photogrammetry, or remote sensing.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Experience with robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, or drone surveying.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in construction or engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
