Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry-level opportunity to kick-start your career in surveying? Northumberland County Council is seeking a highly motivated Trainee Surveying Technician to join our dedicated Department of Lands team in Morpeth. No prior experience in surveying is required, as we will provide comprehensive training and support to help you develop the essential skills and knowledge needed for this vital role. You will learn to assist our experienced surveyors in various land measurement and mapping tasks, contributing to important local projects across Northumberland.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior surveying technicians with data collection using various surveying instruments (e.g., total stations, GPS equipment).
- Learn to accurately record field measurements, observations, and relevant site information.
- Support in the preparation of survey drawings, maps, and plans using CAD software (training provided).
- Conduct site visits to gather information, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Assist with the maintenance and calibration of surveying equipment.
- Contribute to data management and archiving of survey records.
- Adhere to all council policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
Required Skills

- A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (due to site visits across the county).
