Job Description

The Northern Territory Contemporary Arts Centre is seeking a passionate and driven Junior Arts Intern with a focus on Gallery Management. This entry-level internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a thriving contemporary art gallery. You will support various aspects of gallery management, including exhibition coordination, visitor services, collections care, and administrative tasks. This role is ideal for individuals eager to learn about the inner workings of the arts sector, develop practical skills, and contribute to the vibrant cultural life of Palmerston. Full training and mentorship will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, installation, and de-installation of art exhibitions.
  • Support front-of-house operations, including welcoming visitors and providing information about current exhibitions.
  • Aid in the documentation and inventory management of the gallery's collection.
  • Contribute to the organization of gallery events, workshops, and educational programs.
  • Perform general administrative duties such as data entry, filing, and correspondence.
  • Learn and adhere to best practices in art handling and preservation.
  • Support marketing and communication efforts, including social media updates and newsletter content creation.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in contemporary art and gallery operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Arts Management, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
