Job Description
Join Downer Group as an Excavator Spotter and become a crucial part of our safety-first construction team in Wollongong. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals passionate about workplace safety who are looking to start a career in the civil construction industry. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this vital safety role.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a dedicated spotter for excavators and other heavy machinery, providing clear and consistent guidance to operators.
- Maintain constant visual contact with machinery and personnel to prevent incidents and ensure safe operation.
- Communicate effectively with operators using established hand signals, two-way radios, or other communication methods.
- Identify potential hazards in the work area and communicate them proactively to relevant team members.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organised work site, adhering to all safety protocols and site-specific procedures.
- Participate actively in daily pre-start meetings and safety briefings.
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to site supervision.
Required Skills
- Strong commitment to safety and willingness to learn and adhere to safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Willingness to undertake and pass required safety training and inductions (e.g., White Card).
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
- Basic First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role (e.g., labourer, warehousing).
