Job Description

Are you passionate about wildlife and looking to gain hands-on experience with large animals and zookeeping practices? Thames Valley Wildlife Trust offers an exciting internship opportunity for individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of animal care, husbandry, and conservation. This program is designed to provide comprehensive training and practical exposure to the daily operations of a professional wildlife facility, working closely with our experienced zookeepers and conservationists. You will contribute to the welfare of our large animal residents and support our broader conservation mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced zookeepers with daily animal husbandry tasks, including feeding, watering, and monitoring animal health and behavior.
  • Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures to ensure optimal living conditions.
  • Learn and apply safe animal handling techniques under direct supervision.
  • Support the preparation of animal diets according to specific nutritional requirements.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities designed to promote natural behaviors and well-being.
  • Assist with data collection related to animal observations and record-keeping.
  • Engage with the public during educational programs or guided tours, sharing knowledge about our animals and conservation efforts.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.

  • First Aid certification.
