Xcel Energy is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as Energy Efficiency Home Auditors (Trainee). This entry-level position is perfect for someone looking for a hands-on role where they can learn valuable skills and make a real impact. No prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive training to ensure your success. As a Trainee Auditor, you will travel locally to residential properties to conduct energy assessments, identify areas for improvement, and educate homeowners on how to reduce their energy consumption. A company vehicle will be provided for all work-related travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all required training programs to develop a strong understanding of energy auditing techniques and energy efficiency principles.
  • Travel to residential customer locations daily using a company-provided vehicle.
  • Conduct detailed energy assessments of homes, including visual inspections, diagnostic testing (e.g., blower door tests, infrared scans), and data collection under supervision.
  • Identify sources of energy loss and recommend appropriate energy-saving measures and improvements.
  • Accurately record and document audit findings using company software and tools.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with homeowners, explaining audit procedures and proposed recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies while on job sites and during travel.
  • Maintain and care for company equipment and vehicle.
  • Collaborate with senior auditors and team members to continuously improve skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong interest in energy efficiency, home improvement, or environmental sustainability.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical information quickly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and report generation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools.
  • Knowledge of residential construction or building science.
