Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Soil Science Assistant to join our agricultural team based in Bendigo. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical soil health initiatives across Victoria. You will work alongside experienced soil scientists and agricultural experts, assisting with field data collection, laboratory analysis, and report preparation. This is an ideal position for someone passionate about environmental science and agriculture, looking to build a career in state government.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior soil scientists with field sampling, including soil core extraction and site observation.
  • Prepare soil samples for laboratory analysis, adhering to strict protocols.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and data entry with precision and accuracy.
  • Maintain field equipment and ensure proper calibration.
  • Contribute to the compilation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Assist in the implementation of soil health monitoring programs.
  • Travel to various agricultural sites across the Bendigo region and wider Victoria as required.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of soil science principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Australian driver's license and willingness to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed or currently pursuing a diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Soil Science, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with laboratory equipment or field sampling techniques.
  • Familiarity with GIS software.
