Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Producer (Assistant) to join our dynamic recording team in Wollongong. This is an exciting entry-level opportunity for an individual eager to learn the intricacies of music production within a professional broadcasting environment. You will work closely with experienced producers and engineers, assisting across all stages of the recording process, from pre-production and studio setup to mixing support and post-production tasks. This role is perfect for someone with a foundational understanding of audio, a strong work ethic, and an insatiable curiosity for the world of music creation and sound engineering. Full training will be provided to help you develop your skills and contribute meaningfully to our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior producers and engineers during recording sessions, including microphone setup, cable management, and instrument preparation.
  • Operate and monitor recording equipment under supervision, ensuring optimal sound capture.
  • Perform basic audio editing, cleanup, and file organisation post-recording.
  • Maintain studio tidiness and equipment inventory, ensuring a professional and organised workspace.
  • Support producers with administrative tasks such as logging session details, scheduling, and project documentation.
  • Learn and apply best practices in audio engineering, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and signal flow.
  • Actively participate in creative discussions and contribute ideas during production meetings.
  • Troubleshoot minor technical issues and escalate complex problems to senior staff.
  • Ensure all health and safety guidelines are adhered to within the studio environment.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for music production, audio engineering, or sound design.
  • Basic understanding of audio concepts (e.g., gain, EQ, compression) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with general computer applications and operating systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proactive and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a certificate, diploma, or degree program in audio engineering, music production, or a related field (or currently undertaking studies).
  • Familiarity with any Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase).
  • Experience with personal recording projects or home studio setups.
  • Basic knowledge of musical instruments or music theory.
