Job Description
Texas A&M University-Kingsville is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Academic Advising & Student Success Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in higher education administration, specifically within academic advising and student support services. The intern will assist advisors and staff in various capacities, contributing directly to the success and retention of our student population. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about education, student development, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist academic advisors with scheduling appointments, managing student records, and preparing advising materials.
- Provide front-line support to students by answering general inquiries, guiding them to appropriate resources, and explaining university policies.
- Help organize and execute student success workshops, orientation sessions, and other retention-focused events.
- Support data entry and maintenance in student information systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Conduct research on best practices in academic advising and student success initiatives.
- Collaborate with various university departments to streamline student support services.
- Perform general administrative duties as assigned, including filing, photocopying, and managing office supplies.
Required Skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A strong interest in higher education and student development.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Education, Counseling, Business Administration, Psychology).
- Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role.
- Familiarity with university systems or databases.
