Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable individual to join our team as an Airplane Cabin Trash Collector at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW). In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the thorough collection and disposal of waste from aircraft cabins between flights, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for passengers. This is an entry-level position where full training will be provided for all job-specific tasks. However, candidates MUST be able to successfully obtain and maintain airport security clearance. Your commitment to safety, efficiency, and cleanliness directly contributes to the smooth operation of airport services.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and dispose of all trash, litter, and refuse from airplane cabins according to established procedures.
- Sort recyclable materials from general waste as required.
- Transport collected waste to designated disposal areas.
- Adhere strictly to all airport security regulations and safety protocols, including those for airside operations.
- Operate basic cleaning equipment and vehicles (e.g., trash compactors, utility carts) if required, after training.
- Report any unusual findings or safety hazards to supervisors immediately.
- Work efficiently to meet tight turnaround schedules between flights.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while working in a high-security environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) and all necessary airport security clearances.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and Transport Canada security screening.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual attendance.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Basic understanding of English for communication and safety instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an airport or high-security environment (e.g., warehouse, factory).
- Valid Class G Driver's License (for potential airside vehicle operation, not mandatory for hiring).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
