Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Animatronic Control Systems Intern to join our dynamic engineering team in Kailua, HI. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and testing of complex control systems for advanced animatronic figures and robotic prototypes. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects from conception to implementation. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates passionate about robotics, mechatronics, and creating captivating interactive experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and implementation of control algorithms for animatronic movement and sequencing.
- Support the integration of sensor feedback systems (e.g., encoders, accelerometers) into control architectures.
- Participate in the assembly, wiring, and testing of animatronic prototypes and sub-assemblies.
- Contribute to the development and debugging of software for real-time control systems (e.g., using Python, C++).
- Document design specifications, testing procedures, and results.
- Collaborate with mechanical and artistic teams to ensure control systems meet performance and aesthetic requirements.
- Conduct research on new technologies and techniques in animatronic control and robotics.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of control systems theory and principles.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Arduino).
- Familiarity with microcontroller platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Knowledge of servo motors, stepper motors, and various motor drivers.
- Familiarity with serial communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART).
- Personal projects involving robotics, animatronics, or interactive electronics.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and fabrication techniques.
