Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated APS6 Senior Policy Officer to join our dynamic Government Strategy team in Bowen. This pivotal role involves contributing to the development and implementation of key government policies and strategies that support regional economic development, infrastructure planning, and community resilience in North Queensland. The successful candidate will engage with various stakeholders, conduct comprehensive research, and provide expert advice to senior management on complex policy issues, ensuring alignment with departmental and government objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on complex policy issues relevant to regional development and government strategy.
- Develop high-quality policy advice, briefing notes, submissions, and other policy documents for senior management and ministerial offices.
- Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry bodies, and community groups, to gather insights and build consensus.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of policies and programs, recommending adjustments as required.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and achievement of departmental objectives, particularly those impacting regional Queensland.
- Represent the department at meetings, workshops, and forums as required.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in policy development, analysis, and implementation within a government or public sector environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to research complex issues and synthesize information effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely for diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight deadlines.
- Sound understanding of government decision-making processes and legislative frameworks.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working on regional development, infrastructure, or local government policy issues.
- Knowledge of the Queensland government context and regional priorities.
