Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Aquaculture & Fisheries Management Intern to join our team in Brossard, Quebec. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the sustainable management of aquaculture operations and wild fisheries. You will work closely with our experienced team, learning about daily operations, environmental monitoring, data collection, and resource conservation techniques. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates passionate about marine science, biology, environmental studies, or related fields, eager to kickstart their career in a dynamic industry. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily operational tasks at aquaculture facilities, including feeding, water quality monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in data collection and analysis related to fish health, growth, and environmental parameters.
- Support research projects focused on improving aquaculture practices and sustainability.
- Learn and apply best practices for fisheries management and conservation.
- Collaborate with team members on various projects, providing support where needed.
- Document observations and contribute to reports on findings.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and protocols.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in aquaculture, fisheries, marine biology, or environmental science.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good observational and analytical skills.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to perform tasks in various outdoor and aquatic environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Management).
- Basic understanding of ecological principles and aquatic ecosystems.
- Prior experience with field work or laboratory procedures (volunteer or academic).
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
