Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Aquaculture & Fisheries Management Intern to join our dynamic team in Calgary. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in various aspects of aquaculture and fisheries science within a leading consulting firm. You will work alongside experienced professionals on diverse projects, contributing to environmental assessments, research, and sustainable resource management initiatives. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting and develop foundational skills in the industry. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior biologists and project managers with fieldwork, including fish sampling, habitat assessments, water quality monitoring, and data collection.
- Support laboratory analysis of biological samples and processing of field data.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and presentations by conducting literature reviews and data entry.
- Operate and maintain field equipment safely and efficiently.
- Participate in client meetings and project discussions as required.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols and regulations.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in aquaculture, fisheries management, aquatic biology, or environmental science.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Biology, Environmental Science, Fisheries Management, Aquaculture).
- Basic understanding of ecological principles and aquatic ecosystems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) and a clean driving record.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or paid experience in fieldwork, lab work, or environmental projects.
- Basic knowledge of data analysis software or GIS (e.g., ArcGIS).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with boat handling or working in remote field conditions.
