Job Description
The Australian National Archives is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Archive Assistant to join our team in Glenelg, Adelaide. This is a vital federal role dedicated to the preservation and accessibility of Australia’s rich documentary heritage. As an Archive Assistant, you will play a crucial part in managing and safeguarding records of national significance, ensuring they are available for future generations.

Key Responsibilities
- Process and catalogue archival records, including physical and digital materials, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and arrangement of records for storage, conservation, and exhibition.
- Conduct quality control checks on cataloguing and digitisation projects to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Provide assistance to researchers and members of the public in accessing archival collections, under supervision.
- Handle archival materials with care, ensuring their long-term preservation and security.
- Maintain accurate records of collection movements and locations.
- Contribute to general administrative tasks and office duties as required.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to lift and move archival boxes (up to 15kg) and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or Certificate IV in Library and Information Services, Archival Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in an archive, library, museum, or records management environment.
- Familiarity with archival descriptive standards or records management principles.
