Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathetic individual to join our clinical team as an Art Therapy Shadowing Intern. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn about the practical application of art therapy within a supportive clinical setting. You will gain invaluable insight into the therapeutic process, patient interactions, and the day-to-day operations of a mental health facility. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in art therapy, psychology, or related fields, offering direct exposure to real-world clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe qualified Art Therapists during individual and group therapy sessions, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of art materials and the therapy space.
  • Support the Art Therapy team with administrative tasks, such as session scheduling and resource management, under supervision.
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions to understand treatment planning and client progress.
  • Learn about clinical documentation and ethical considerations in art therapy practice.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and professional ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in art therapy, psychology, mental health, or related fields.
  • Excellent observational and listening skills.
  • High level of empathy, compassion, and sensitivity.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly organized.
  • Basic proficiency in various art mediums (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpting).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate or postgraduate program in art therapy, psychology, fine arts, social work, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience volunteering or working in a healthcare, educational, or community setting.
  • Understanding of mental health conditions and therapeutic approaches.
