Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking a talented and motivated Bridge Design Engineer to join our thriving infrastructure team in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of bridge projects, ranging from concept design through to construction support, across the UK and potentially internationally. You will be instrumental in delivering safe, efficient, and innovative bridge solutions, contributing to critical infrastructure development. Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake detailed design and analysis of various bridge structures using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare comprehensive design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Contribute to all stages of bridge projects, from feasibility studies and conceptual design to detailed engineering and construction supervision.
  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant design codes, industry standards, and health & safety regulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to their professional development.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections as required to gather data and oversee progress.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in bridge design and analysis, encompassing various materials such as steel, concrete, and composite structures.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., LUSAS, Midas Civil, SOFiSTiK).
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes and UK design standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, capable of presenting complex technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued member of a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE) or actively working towards it.
  • Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools (e.g., Revit, MicroStation, OpenBridge Modeler).
  • Experience in bridge inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Knowledge of temporary works design principles for bridge construction.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
