Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Bridge Maintenance Hand to join our Civil Government Infrastructure team in Port Hedland. This role involves performing essential maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks on bridges and other civil structures. The successful candidate will work as part of a crew to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of critical infrastructure, contributing directly to the welfare of the community and the state’s transport network. This is an on-site position requiring physical fitness and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of bridges, culverts, and other civil structures.
  • Perform tasks such as concrete patching, painting, corrosion treatment, vegetation control, and minor structural repairs.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment, ensuring proper storage and organization.
  • Assist with traffic management setups as required during maintenance operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to complete projects on schedule.
  • Undertake general labouring duties as directed to support infrastructure maintenance activities.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in a labouring, construction, or maintenance role, preferably in civil infrastructure.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures and practices in a construction or maintenance environment.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour, lift heavy objects, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Australian C Class Driver's Licence.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant trade certificate or qualification (e.g., Certificate II/III in Civil Construction).
  • Experience operating small plant and equipment (e.g., elevated work platforms, bobcats, forklifts).
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Experience working at heights or in confined spaces.
