Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team in Seattle. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data critical to various Amazon operations, from logistics and delivery optimization to cloud services and new product development. You will leverage your expertise in GIS software and cartographic principles to create accurate, insightful maps and geospatial products that support strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain high-quality cartographic products and maps for diverse internal stakeholders.
- Perform complex geospatial data analysis, including spatial queries, geocoding, and network analysis.
- Manage and update large geospatial databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
- Develop and implement GIS workflows and processes to improve efficiency and automation.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other teams to understand requirements and deliver tailored GIS solutions.
- Interpret satellite imagery, aerial photography, and other remote sensing data for feature extraction and mapping.
- Provide technical support and training on GIS tools and applications to team members.
- Research and evaluate new geospatial technologies and data sources to enhance capabilities.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with leading GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles, map projections, and coordinate systems.
- Experience with geospatial data management, including data collection, cleansing, and validation.
- Ability to perform spatial analysis and derive meaningful insights from complex datasets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Cartography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with scripting languages for GIS automation (e.g., Python with ArcPy or GDAL).
- Familiarity with cloud-based GIS platforms (e.g., AWS Geo, Google Earth Engine, Azure Maps).
- Experience working with large-scale geospatial datasets and Big Data technologies.
- Knowledge of web mapping technologies (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox GL JS).
- Experience in a corporate or fast-paced environment.
